They are self-powered and do not need to be charged via exposure to light, such as our Glow in the Dark Embrite™ glow material. Tritium does not in itself emit light but excites phosphors, thereby generating light. Glow sticks emit light when two chemicals are mixed. The reaction between the two chemicals is catalyzed by a base, usually sodium salicylate. The sticks consist of a tiny, brittle container within a flexible outer container.
