Webb5 aug. 2024 · Background: Pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis (PLCH) is an interstitial primary pulmonary disease, characterized by Langerhans cell proliferation. It is easily misdiagnosed in children. This study aimed to characterize the clinical manifestations and features of PLCH by retrospective analysis. Importantly, PLCH pathogenesis is different between childhood and adulthood, because over 95% of affected adults are cigarette smokers . Thus, PLCH is mainly described in adults with a peak frequency at ages 20–40 years.
